GLAMPING IN DAYLESFORD
I am the first person to raise my hand and say, “camping is not for me” and I have never been camping before. I love the idea of immersing myself into nature, escaping the busy city for some quiet and serenity but I don’t like the idea of sleeping in a sleeping bag with insects and bugs. Cue, Cosy Tents, who have brought the best elements of camping together with some luxury touches, to make the perfect middle ground between a tent and a hotel room.
Just a stone’s throw from Melbourne’s CBD or one and half hours’ drive I discovered a little piece of countryside bliss. Daylesford sits in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and is best known as a spa town with its natural mineral springs and also for its galleries, boutique stores and restaurants. Set on a secluded 11-hectare estate, Cosy Tents accommodation is just a few minutes outside of town.
Our campsite home-away-from-home was the ‘Cardigan’ European style bell tent. The roomy 5-metre tent was fully furnished including a cloud-like queen-sized bed, in tent lighting, Bose speakers, Dyson fan, USB phone chargers, Esky and crockery. Essentially all of the simple luxuries for a comfortable stay without stripping away too much of camping experience. I have to mention my favourite luxurious touch, the bathrooms. Much more of modern-Nordic-beautiful hotel vibe than campsite and a creature comfort I very much enjoyed and needed.
For us, it was all about taking in the scenery, relaxing around the campsite and exploring the surrounding towns (see more to do in Daylesford coming soon). Come the afternoon, take a stroll around the surrounding campsite land and you may be rewarded with a stunning sunset. For dinner, you will find lots of great options in town or after a quick trip to the supermarket you can cook up a BBQ dinner with some local produce in the communal outdoor kitchens. Have a drink and settle in for the night around one of the campfires – BYO marshmallows. We finished our nights utilising the board games on offer from Reception and doing a bit of stargazing. It doesn’t get much more relaxing than that. The secluded quietness and comfy bed will ensure a great night’s sleep, to which you will wake to a delicious breakfast box waiting for you on tent doorstep.
